Our Top Ten Accommodations From Around The World

Julie Last updated: September 29, 2020 Post-Trip, RTW Leave a Comment

In thirteen months of travel we stayed in a lot of places, 149 to be exact. We moved quite frequently, never having much time to settle down before packing up and moving on again. This type of fast paced travel had us staying in places like hotels and home stays more than apartment rentals. Even so, some of the few apartment …

Silo Stay, New Zealand

Tyler Rivenbark Last updated: May 28, 2020 New Zealand 10 Comments

This post was written by Tyler and Kara. We are a family of four who have been traveling around the world for ten months.  We have slept in caves, in tents out in the African bush, in teahouses on the Everest base camp trek, and even under the stars in the Indian desert. While in New Zealand we had the …

Broken Arrow is known as Sedona's most thrilling off road adventure. You can experience this trail either on a Pink Jeep Tour or you can drive it yourself. We rented a Jeep Rubicon from Barlow Adventures so we could drive this road, and the other 4WD roads in Sedona, without taking a tour. By far, Broken Arrow is our favorite in Sedona. It's technical, it's challenging, and the views are spectacular.

First full day in Sedona and the caves at Soldier Pass were a highlight. We also hiked the Brins Mesa - Soldier Pass Loop, hiked through Fay Canyon, visited Honanki, and drove the Outlaw Trail and Diamondback Gulch. Thrilled to go out and explore more tomorrow!

Today is the final day of our wanderlust series. This time, I have a question for you.

Have you made any travel plans yet? I’m curious about where people are going, whether it is in a few weeks, later this year, or even 2022.

We have no planned travel yet. Our trip to Guadalupe Mountains and White Sands is a no-go right now due to travel restrictions in New Mexico. We have talked about visiting Congaree National Park for a few days or spending some time in Sedona in the next month or two. So far, our visits to Sedona have been extremely quick and this is a place we would like to spend more time. But other than that, we have no other potential plans in the works.

I am sharing a few more photos from around the world. It’s been a lot of fun doing this series and I am hoping that we can all get out there and start traveling soon.

This is a continuation of our wanderlust series, where we share travel destinations from around the world. These are meant to be bookmarked for the future, when it is safe to travel again.

As part of our wanderlust series, today I am sharing Kyoto, Japan.

Japan was the final country that we visited on our around the world trip, before returning home to the USA. It was the perfect way to end truly remarkable year.

We spent two weeks in Japan, splitting our time between Kyoto and Tokyo. It was just enough time to get a quick glimpse into this country. We learned that a visit to Japan is not to be rushed…to have the best experience, I believe that you need to slow down to soak up the culture and the history.

The Japanese are extremely polite and welcoming. The public transportation network is phenomenal and the Shinkansen trains are amazing! The temples and shrines, with their perfectly manicured gardens and sand gardens are wonderful to visit and the food is delicious. We were huge fans of kaiten sushi (conveyor belt sushi), since it was a fun and economical way to eat sushi.

Kyoto is the cultural heart of Japan. There are over 1600 Buddhist temples and 400 Shinto shrines in Kyoto and this city contains one of the highest numbers of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the world. But there is more to do here than just tour the temples. Go shopping in Nishiki Market, stroll through the Higashiyama district, visit the Arashiyama Bamboo Forest, attend a tea ceremony, grab a bite to eat on Pontocho Alley, and much more. New on our website is a post about the things to do in Kyoto (click the link in our bio to read it).

Have you been to Japan? What were your favorite experiences?
